Dealing With Stress – What Can You Do?
The right way to cope with stress is very different than the wrong way. Although we have found several ways to deal with stress, we should not simply look for ways to cope with stress. We should understand that we cannot be a normal person when we have stress and therefore coping with stress is much more complex than it appears at first glance.
Our body is programmed to adapt to stress in a very natural way, as is the case with any other part of our body. When we are injured or ill, our body automatically increases its resistance to injury, disease, and the effects of stress on our body. The only difference is that the body’s “defense” against stress is in the form of cortisol, which raises the heart rate and causes the release of stress hormones into the blood stream. Cortisol is the precursor to glucocorticoids, which affect a wide range of body functions, including the immune system, circulation, and the brain.
When dealing with stress, the old principle that prevention is better than cure is still valid. We should try to find ways to reduce our exposure to stress, and we should try to delay the onset of stress. The earlier we can find and avoid our sources of stress, the easier it will be to get control of our response to stress. Therefore, the best thing we can do is to find ways to delay stress.
There are many different ways to delay stress, and the simple fact is that any effective strategy is going to involve some degree of effort on our part. For example, we all know how important it is to sleep, but if we do not sleep enough we do not have enough rest, and therefore we do not have enough time to complete all the tasks required of us to cope with stress. Therefore, to cope with stress we need to learn some ways to postpone sleep or divert our attention to things that are more productive.
One effective way to delay stress is to find a hobby oran activity that you enjoy doing, and that is also enjoyable. Then, learn to use this new hobby or this new activity for a full day or a full week or even a month. Then, put all the time that you have been postponing for this new activity or this new hobby into your schedule. Don’t let your mind wander from it. Then, take a half hour or so to actually focus on what you are doing and to begin to relax yourself.
All the people who have found ways to cope with stress are doing something like this. They are taking a day or a weekend off from their regular job and planning out some time when they can relax and enjoy themselves. When you find a new hobby or a new activity to take up, make sure that you set aside some time each day to dedicate to it, and that you don’t allow yourself to get distracted by all the trivial tasks that have been so taking up your time.
Once you have chosen the hobby or the activity that you are going to devote some time to, try to stick with it. Remember that you are not simply going to let your mind wander, and that your first priority should be to find something that you enjoy doing. Once you have found this, give yourself some time to focus on that new hobby or a new activity. Then, when you have actually begun to relax in a way that you might have never before been able to manage, your brain will be flooded with endorphins, and you will feel happy.
This strategy of delaying stress can be very helpful in managing stressful situations, especially if you want to overcome the stress that has been building up in your body over the years. You can’t let stress build up, and you can’t let it overwhelm you.
